Euro
The euro is the single currency used in 19 EU member states including Ireland. Exchange rates from 1999 to the present are reference rates. Ireland joined the European Union in 1973 and was one of the first countries to adopt the euro on 1 January 1999.
No Winner of the Euro
There was no winner of the euro. The euro is a common currency shared by 19 European Union member states. It was introduced in 1999 and replaced the various national currencies of the participating countries. The euro is managed by the European Central Bank and is used by over 340 million people.
